“Salama Malaika Self Help Group” (CBO)

The German relief organization “Malaika e.V.” cooperates with the Community Based Organization (= CBO) “Salama Malaika Self Help Group”. Our vision is:

→ We build up and run an AIDS-orphanage in Nakuru.
→ We don’t accept tribal differences.
→ We aim at emancipation and gender mainstreaming.
→ We are open to different religions.
→ We place emphasis on cooperation, understanding, empathy, tolerance and mutual respect.

The Board

  • Chairlady: Mrs Mary Wanjiru Maina (called “Mama Kui”). She is highly respected in Lanet district. She is fully committed to church matters and supports needy people. She is a member of several community based organizations.
  • Vice-chairman: Daniel “Kago” Kamau. He is one of Malaika’s team as “Uncle” and manager. He is also a cook, the gardener, the security man, the repairman. He is responsible for the finances, too.
  • Treasurer: Mrs Ruth Njeri Mutua. She is respected by the people in Lanet and is committed to public issues.
  • First Secretary: Julius Lugonzo. He was the headmaster of Highway Academy, which is a private school in Lanet. He is the conductor of a well-known gospel-choir in Nakuru.
  • Extra Member: Luka who gives his good advice whenever it is needed.
  • Honorary Chairman: Geert Schroeder (Germany).
  • Honorary Chairwoman: Kristiane Ewert (Germany)
