Das kenianische Schulsystem bietet Schülern und Lehrern drei „Terms“ an – also ca drei Schuldrittel: Anfang Januar bis Ende März – dann Ferien. Yippee! Anfang Mai bis Ende Juli – dann wieder Ferien! Wieder Yippee! Anfang September bis Ende Oktober, dann zwei lange Monate Ferien für fast alle kenianischen Kinder und Jugendlicher. Nur die Absolventen werden in den Abschlussexamen im November gezwiebelt! Die Armen! Aber da gibt es noch ein zusätzliches BONBON: „Mid-Term“! Das ist eine zusätzliche freie Woche für die Kinder. Nur die Lehrer müssen arbeiten: Sie korrigieren die vorangegangenen Klassenarbeiten. Hier in den Fotos seht ihr nun einige unserer glücklichen Malaika-Kids vor 10 Tagen im Ferienrausch. Die Kleinen buddelten in so was Ähnlichem wie Sand und Kies. Die Älteren lasen Bücher, backten Kekse und Brot und tanzten zu Pop-Musik. Fast alle mussten auch quälende Hausaufgaben erledigen. Aber da gab es auch den „KING OF THE SEWING MACHINE“: der 15jährige Joseph! Er reparierte Klamotten, meinen kaputten Rucksack und diverse Löcher auf dieser manuellen Nähmaschine. Vielleicht entwirft er eines Tages als Designer fantastische Kreationen für Jugendliche – wer weiß???

WONDERFUL HOLIDAY DAYS !! ( Engl.)
The Kenyan school system offers pupils and teachers three terms – around three thirds: early January to late March – then vacation. Yippee! Beginning of May to end of July – then vacation again! Yippee again! Beginning of September to end of October, then two long months of vacation for almost all Kenyan children and adolescents. Only the graduates will be onion for the final exams in November! The poor! But there is an additional SWEET: “Mid-Term”! This is an additional free week for the children. Only the teachers have to work: they correct the previous classwork. Here in the photos you can see some of our happy Malaika kids on vacation 10 days ago. The little ones dug in something like sand and gravel. The elderly read books, baked cookies and bread, and danced to pop music. Almost all of them had to do painful homework. But there was also the “KING OF THE SEWING MACHINE”: 15-year-old Joseph! He repaired clothes, my broken backpack and various holes on this manual sewing machine. Maybe one day he will design fantastic creations for young people as a designer – who knows ???
